Not all data
is equal.

When it comes to data, there’s no room for error. You deserve a partner whose information you can trust completely.

Many of the world’s most sophisticated financial firms rely on us to provide holiday, trading hours and other date-related information. Why? Because our research is second to none.

Why Research Matters

Will American markets close early this year for Christmas? That’s too easy. When will Mumbai observe Diwali in 2027?…Now, that’s a challenge. The Indian government can tell you their festival dates for no more than 18 months into the future. We’ve developed an implementation of the Hindu calendar that goes out hundreds of years into the future and reliably answers the question.

The rules governing financial market operations can be extremely complex. They vary within countries, across countries, and over time. They can change in a hearbeat.

For our customers, incorrectly predicting a bank holiday or missing a trading window can be expensive. To avoid costly discrepancies and stay ahead of the curve, intensive, vigilant research is the only approach that works.

At Swaps Monitor, Research is in our DNA.

Our Approach to Research

We make it our business to know everything there is to know about how each of our financial centers do what they do.

Taking Responsibility

Taking Responsibility

Every one of the 5,000-plus financial centers that we publish across all our products is “owned“ by a research analyst. It’s the analyst’s job to understand all the factors that determine the behavior of the center in question. These factors can be numerous and are never the same from one country to another.

Contacts

Contacts

Our most important contacts are the primary sources—the people who take the relevant decisions. Other sources of information are essential as well, including the people who work with the decision-makers, as well as newspapers, social media, religious authorities and local television. The owner is responsible for developing and maintaining suitable contacts at each center, and for constantly being on the lookout for changes.

History

History

The extensive history that we have for many centers plays a vital role in predicting future behavior. Event patterns often follow complex cycles that play out over many years. For example, in the Western calendar a given date will fall on the same day of the week either 5, 6 or 11 years later (or 28 years in the case of February 29). The analyst uses these past behaviors as an important input in projecting what will happen in the future.

Uncertainty

Uncertainty

All predictions of future human behavior—every one of our centers falls into this category—carry an element of uncertainty. Our analysts determine the probability of a particular event and the data we send you reflects the most likely outcome. In most cases, these outcomes carry a high degree of certainty. But when they don’t—for example, Muslim holidays that are based on the physical sighting of the moon—we devote additional resources to monitoring the facts.

Updates

Updates

When the analyst becomes aware of new facts and concludes that the most likely outcome is different than our published data, we issue an immediate update.

Training

Training

We employ analysts with diverse backgrounds and skills because we believe that diverse perspectives result in better data. There are no university courses that teach people the skills needed to do good research at Swaps Monitor. So, we have created a rigorous training program for our analysts which takes several years to complete.
